Full Name: Chase Mitchell Age: 21 Gender: Male Date of Birth: May 5th Tainted? Yes, but he doesn’t know it yet. Ability: [NOTE: Chase has not yet manifested his abilities! When he does, they will clearly be weak; what’s listed is his potential, though unless we keep playing for like ages, he will probably never reach his full potential.] Protasia – creating force-fields around himself and others. Initially he will only be able to create the shield around himself (say a two-three feet distance away from himself) so anyone protected by it will probably have to be very close. Eventually with training he’ll be able to create them around others from a limited distance. These force-fields can repel bullets, but the stronger force against the shield, the more mentally taxing it is on him; he can’t hold up against machine-gun type fire for more than a minute under the best of circumstances (i.e. after much much practice), let alone when he’s first starting out. Beliefs: He’s curious about these “Tainted”, has a minor obsession with them – their abilities, their mindset, their limitations. It’s fascinating. But he doesn’t believe they should be persecuted for what they are, wants them to be able to be public about it without risk of violence.

Eyes: Dark, stormy blue-gray, ranging between the two colors and never really settling on one or the other. He sorta has long eyelashes for a guy. Hair: A light brown, dark-blond sort of combination. It’s a little long, and tends to sometimes fall in his eyes (something which annoys him somewhat). If he doesn’t bother / remember to shave, there is occasionally sightings of stubble. Height: 5”7”; short for a male his age, yes, he’s well aware of that, thanks… Weight: 140-ish lbs Distinguishing Features: Nothing really “special” that would single him out from anyone else, really. Other: Chase is pretty much always wearing a jacket of some kind (usually a hoodie), even in the summer or something. He’s also never without a notebook (at LEAST one of those tiny pocket ones), and rarely without his laptop.

Likes: .Warm weather .Writing, either in English or French (fiction, especially, but anything will do; even a letter to someone is enjoyable) .Words .Coffee (and all other caffeinated beverages) .Quiet (in the sense that it’s not annoyingly loud, at least; music is tolerable and sometimes nice, but people talking too much? Not so cool) .People-watching .Drumming (he used to be in one of those teenaged rock bands, but most of the kids left town so the group broke up); he tends to randomly start tapping out beats on any and everything if he can’t think for some reason .Family – it’s very important to him Dislikes: .Any mention whatsoever of his height (or lack therof); it's a touchy subject.. .Cold, wet weather .Math of any sort; numbers + his brain = bad .Clingy, too-girly women/girls (if they make squealing noises at thing randomly, he’s outta there) .Rap music (it’s offensive to his mental process) .People who frequently abuse words, grammar, spelling, etc. .Rejection letters from publishers The Good Points: .Chase’s an observant young man. He sees everything, keeps mental track of everything, and tends to take notes on the most trivial things. This is mostly used for his writing, but it spreads out into pretty much every area of his life. .He’s very literate, uses big words sometimes, even though he doesn’t seem the type to do so. .Very clean and organized. Anything out of place in his home is fixed right away, and dirt and generally gross things make him uneasy and are therefore bad. .He’s persistent. Not a lot will make him give up on something if he wants to do it. Once he’s got his sights on something, good luck distracting him from it. .Protective – anyone he sees in trouble is probably going to have assistance of some kind, if he can, and those in his “inner circle” of sorts, even more-so. .Mentally, he’s a hopeless romantic. He’s not sure why, really, it’s just how he is. Not that he lets on, of course. Noooo... The Bad Points: .He tends to correct other peoples’ grammar, word-use, pronunciation, and all that, out of habit. It can easily be viewed as annoying. .Chase also has snarky moments – usually when he’s annoyed or angry, but also sometimes just because, apparently. Sarcasm, especially, can be a frequent accompaniment to pretty much anything he says. .He’s slightly prone to panicking if things go wrong, or seem like they’re about to. Sometimes he keeps this to himself, other times, not so much. Habits: Writing notes on every-and-anything, sorting things, correcting people’s words/grammar/etc. Possessions/Obsessions/Other: Chase’s prized possession is his laptop – it’s got everything he needs on it. All his writing from the past three years, all his contacts and ideas and notes and characters and just… everything. Without it, he’s pretty much lost. Obsessions – These “Tainted” ones. They’re just too fascinating to ignore, all the rumors and events that just aren’t explainable in traditional ways… Other – Mehh, think that’s it.

Place of Birth: Unknown, at least to him. No one wanted to talk about it, worried that knowing much about Before would bring back memories or something (not that he had many; he was only like 3). But he’s lived in Sanglignée almost all his life. Family: Birth parents – Allen and Leah Reiss [Deceased] Adoptive parents - Marie and Samuel Mitchell Sister – Alice Reiss-Mitchell (30)
History: Chase doesn’t remember his real parents much – they died on vacation here visiting a family friend, a car accident when he was only 3. He’d been at the inn with his older sister (then 12), Alice, at the time, so they’d been spared. They were taken in by the friend they’d been there to visit, and eventually were officially adopted.
Alice was pretty much overprotective of Chase – he was the last thing she had left from Before, and so she wasn’t going to lose him too. Their new parents understood that and left it be, because clearly it was a way to help her through this. Chase picked up that protectiveness from her, and so anyone in the group that is “His”, he’s watchful and protective over.
When he was little, Chase was always a precocious reader, grabbing for books no one else his age could read, and probably wouldn’t even so. Encyclopedias, dictionaries, anything. Thesauruses were his favorite, though – all those words, so many meaning different facets of the same thing! So alike but so clearly different.
He was writing little stories and things as a kid, too. The typical adventure stories about space and aliens and things, at first, but then there were stories about the rumors he kept hearing as he grew up, stories about people with abilities beyond “normal”. The Tainted ones. And it fascinated him, the idea that people around them could be not-normal, but still seem it to everyone else.
The only other pastime Chase really had aside from writing and reading was playing in a little band a few of his friends started. Drumming, specifically, and while the band wasn’t all that good, it was fun, and the habit of hitting things with sticks has stuck with him to this day.
Chase graduated school and went straight for writing careers. At first it appeared he’d have to leave town for that, to get a job at the nearest newspaper, but they gave him a position he could e-mail or mail-in articles instead, so he could stay with his family. He’s been doing that for three years now, simultaneously working on writing a novel.
He won’t share anything about the novel, all secretive and sneaky about it, but his questions and theories bounced around about the Tainted leave little doubt to anyone who knows him well that it’s got to do with that.

RP Sample: He has a feeling the woman a table away from him is getting annoyed with the constant tapping of his pen against the table, the side of his mug, the computer before him, and the highly-reflective metal napkin holder. Just something about the way she keeps shooting him those annoyed glances, really, sort of makes that obvious.
Chase is almost tempted to keep doing it just to see what she'll do (purely for research sake, of course), but he sets the pen down gently instead, careful not to let it make even one more click against the tabletop as he does. (And then fights off the urge to pick up the spoon from his coffee cup and start playing with that, instead starting to type up the notes he'd scribbled down earlier in the day, because spoon-tapping is probably just as annoying, if not more-so.)
It's one of his slower days, as far as notes go (one of the best forms of procrastination, taking notes) - only three pages to type up, which, for him, isn't a lot at all. It's mostly trivial things, too, nothing really solid or important, but it's probably not useless, at least.
Nothing's useless, not as far as Chase is concerned. Whether it's for an article sometime (speaking of which, he's got a deadline on that next one, doesn't he? Three days or something? Meh, there's time), or for his novel, or one he's not even writing now but might, even; it will undoubtedly come in handy someday, it always does seem to.
