No Good Deed

Aero panted as he lopped through the dense forest. His wolf eyes looked around desperately. There were shouts all around him. Aero had gotten himself into a hole again. Though it was worse this time. When he was younger he had been kidnapped by a group called Nobody who experimented on tainted and all but dissected them to see how they worked. He darted though the trees and then swiftly changed into a horse. He galloped though the woods the whites of his eyes showing. They were ready for any of his regular transformations with ropes flying toward him. There were vicious leg traps everywhere. They were determined to get him this time. They had stretched nets across the branches to keep him from flying away. A man stepped out in his way and he skidded to a half throwing his hooves at the man. As he did so one of those ropes found a way around his neck.

He transformed into a human and coughed pulling at he rope. His vision was darkening and the agents of Nobody were closing in on him. He waited until one of them neared and changed into a large lion. He bit don hard breaking skin and bone. He man flew back screaming with pain. He quickly changed into a humming bird, something he didn't do often. He slipped out of the ropes and darted toward the sky. The nets caught him again. They had special guns that they had made that would neutralize his power. He dodged them with ease. He changed into a small gecko and slipped through the net and once on the other side changed into a eagle and flew high. They shot through the net and branches. He screeched and soared higher and farther.

Aero heaved a sigh as he flew the rest of the way to the beach. He skidded the waves before changing into a fish and dropping into the ocean. He changed into a shark and gained speed. He really wanted to get as far away from the agents of Nobody as he could. He spotted the shallowing shore and against the shark instinct he went as far as he could inland. Then changing into a human he staggered the rest of the way out of the water. The bottom of his jeans soaked. He came out of the way of the waves and sat down heavily in th sand. He panted and took several deep calming breaths. That was a close call. Way too close for comfort. The must have expected him to go back home, so he'd better avoid there for a while.

As far as hideouts went, this one was more rustic than she usually liked. Charlie had chosen it because her usual haunts were being watched by a very unhappy man who was a few hundred thousand pounds lighter in the pocket after paying for something she had neglected to tell him was a fake. If he found her before she was able to locate the original item, well…her new, expensive haircut would be an absolute waste.

The cabin was getting to be too stifling and if she had to count the number of floorboards one more time, she was going to lose her mind. Charlie loathed this fresh air and forest…she craved for the life of the city and the comforts that could be purchased quite easily. ’One more minute in here and I’ll definitely go insane. At least there aren’t any spirits around here.’ One of the worst parts of being a necromancer was running into a chatty ghost. Charlie didn’t do charity work, so those particular spirits irritated her until they caught on that she wasn’t about to help them.

She stood up with a sigh, deciding that a walk along the beach might help her relax a bit. Being alone was something she was used to, but being alone in a forest full of wildlife was a very different situation. The night was rather quiet, but this only added to the intense feeling of boredom that Charlie was suffering from. But as she broke through the line of trees to reach the beach, she saw something moving quickly through the water and curiosity got the better of her.

Charlie walked quietly down towards the water, staying hidden as much as she could in the darkness. Whatever was coming towards the shore was moving at a high rate and was rather large. Golden eyes scanned the water’s edge when suddenly the speeding object broke through the surface and stumbling out onto the shore was a man.

A man, if you could call him that. He was small, though well built. And he looked as if he had just ran around the world. Even so, Charlie wasn’t getting the ‘psycho killer’ vibe from him. He just looked like he needed a place to rest and catch his breath. She was used to strange things happening around her (after all, how many people actually talked to the dead?) so this fell into her realm of ‘norm.’ Besides, if he wanted to cause trouble, she was more than able to defend herself.

She stood up and cleared her throat to catch his attention. “Well, that is some interesting trick. I thought only Olympic swimmers could go that fast.” Charlie wasn’t exactly sure how he had managed his quick swim but the technical aspects of it weren’t that important.

“Though you must have come pretty far…there isn’t much near here.”

He hated Nobody. They were frightening and wanted nothing but to cut him up and dissect him. Worse was the fact that no one believed him that it existed. He knew that was why they had copied Odysseus's fake name of Nobody that he used to trick the Cyclops with. He hated them. Even worse that they should use his own culture against him. He closed his eyes a long while while he skimmed the surface of the water. The only safe place he could be right now was somewhere deserted or in his animal form. Though with that new gun they had it was going to be tough. He couldn't even think about going back to his home. They'd be over it like flies on a open can of honey.

Aero skimmed the water for a moment before diving under neath the waves. He speed though the water. He loved the feeling of being able to cut through the water s rapidly. It made his heart pound and his adrenaline rush, or was that from having escaped again? He shrugged mentally and stumbled onto the beach. He half sat, half fell on the sand. He was sopping wet and his cloths were sticking to him. His short hair was drying quickly although he could feel it stiffening with salt. He sat in the sand and pulled his knees up to his chest and panted. He wasn't aware that anyone else was on the beach at the time. He heard the voice clear and he stiffened. He turned half expecting to meet a gun in the face.

He didn't relax when he saw a woman come from the brush. He did, however, remember his manners and stood. He brushed what sand he could off of his pants and looked her over. She didn't look like she wanted to hurt him, but looks could be deceiving, he ha learned that in the past. Aero smiled and laughed uncomfortably. He shrugged, "I guess I'm just fast." He didn't know whether she saw his transformation or not. Nor did he know if she would care or if she was tainted herself. He glanced around nervously for a moment. He could see or hear anyone else here. He relaxed slightly and tried to be charming. "I'm Aero," he smiled and held out his hand.

He shrugged slightly, "I don't know, I just kind of picked somewhere to come." He didn't know why he'd chosen this beach, it had been both close to where he was and far from the psychos trying to catch him.
