Full Name: James Nicholas Kohl Age: 20 Gender: Male Date of Birth: May 18 Tainted? Yesh. Ability: Illusionism _ His sixteenth birthday was the most interesting by far. It was the day James finally found out he was one of the tainted. Nothing special happened, everything just seemed … off. At first his talent was in tune with his emotions. It would hide things from him, or people he cared about that would be painful to deal with. He’s worked extensively with his ability in the last four years, after school or between shifts. He can make an illusion to cover the town, or an illusion to cover a room. The visions take considerable more energy depending on detail and size. He has covered Sanglignee in an illusion once, it wasn’t very detailed, and he was bed-ridden for the next week. Since then he hasn’t tried. Beliefs: James has heard much of the tainted, though he also doesn’t think much of it. Sure, he knows he is different. It doesn’t make him better or worse than the next guy who comes along. He was given something to make him special. Whether he uses it or not, it’s there.

Eyes: His eyes are a light gray, almond shaped. To him they aren't that special, though he had noticed not a lot of people have gray eyes. Hair: James has naturally brown hair, plain brown, ugly brown that falls down past his ears. His mother started helping him to dye it blond when he started high school, and they both agree that he looks better with it. Sometimes his roots grow out, but he tends to keep on top of it. Height: Six foot. Weight: 180 lbs. Though it shows itself as muscle, and not much else. Distinguishing Features: Nothing original, really. Other: James is one of those naturally handsome, well-built, look at me kind of guys. You would never know it however. He is in shape, mainly from playing sports through school. He was most passionate about football, but would dabble in others as well. His looks to him are rather plain, though you will see a familiar pink hue on his cheeks if you try and make him believe otherwise. His nose is nicely placed, same as everyone else, in the middle of his face. His is different however in the fact that it is a little crooked. Not much, but enough to notice if you really pay attention. He has nice, relatively full lips. Below that he has a rounded chin, though his jaw is easily hard set. He has been playing football all of his life, so it helps him keep in shape. He has a slightly rounded face, and his complexion is usually pretty tan. In the winter he tends to pale out a little, but not too much. He stand six foot tall, and has a muscular physique. All those days spent in the weight room have done some good.

Likes: + Football + Family + Friends + Cars + Girls Dislikes: - Snakes - Arrogance - Messes - Immaturity - Pain, in its various forms. The Good Points: + James is a very compassionate person. He cares for just about everyone, and often takes on ‘kid sisters and brother’ + He is smart. Not in the obvious way. He’s always gotten away with good marks without studying, and rarely completing homework. + He is a very calm guy. When others are welling up with anger or various other emotions, he has a way of minimizing his. In the quiet he can let them out. But he is strong for the people around him. The Bad Points: - He is incredibly protective of his sister. To an extent it could be good, but he is there for everything. He needs to let go and let her live her life. She can get hurt, he just won’t let her. - He has a habit of using his gift for… “evil”. He’ll use it to make romantic scenes for dates in his backyard. He’ll use it to hide things his family or friends don’t want to see by covering them up. Habits: + Listening to music. There is a constant need for something, noise, anything. If he doesn’t have music on he tends to beat out rhythms with his hands. + Cleaning. He can’t understand why… he just likes everything to be in its place. + Running. While helping him keep in shape, he uses the time to think. Possessions/Obsessions/Other: James is in general one of the nice guys that are hard to find, not that anyone wants them anyway. He cares about everyone, and takes younger people under his “wing” a lot. Usually that means they have a protector and a confidant. He’s funny, and only outgoing at times. He’s a shy guy, and tends to keep to what he knows. Change is good at times, but James doesn’t like much change in his life, especially major change.

Place of Birth: Sanglignee, France Family: Molly Laine-Kohl - Mom Justin Kohl - Dad Ginnifer Kohl - Younger sister Grant Kohl - (Deceased) Younger Brother History: Born May 18th, twenty short years ago, James was the apple of his parents eye. He was a healthy baby, if not a bit large at birth. He had been roughly nine pounds. His first few years were spent exploring everything he could get his hands on, and incidentally, into his mouth as well. He had a habit of chewing on just about everything, window sills were his favorite.
When he was four years old, his little sister and brother were born. He hadn’t been very happy about them coming at first, he did have his parents to himself after all. The twins soon grew on him, and he could be found playing with them at every opportunity. He even tried to help his mom change the diapers once. That was until he found out what was actually in them when they needed changed.
He started school not too much after, and found that he would much rather play on the playground than sit in a stuffy classroom. His love of football developed when he was around seven. He has been playing ever since. Hitting nine years old, his siblings finally joined him in the educational world. He often found himself coming to his family’s rescue, though he didn’t mind one bit. It gave him the reputation of a troublemaker, but what fun was life if you worried about reputations anyway.
Once he hit secondary school, James had established himself as a jock. He hid his smarts well, at least he thought he did. He made it in with the popular crowd easily, and continued to play sports. He got good grades in school, but those weren’t his main concern. He cared about what any teenage boy would care about: cars, sports, and girls. He didn’t get many girlfriends, so he put his attention into a car. He bought an old beater with his parents money, and then began fixing it up. One he had made his final year, it was a real beauty and ran wonderfully.
Then it came, that fateful day. A party he hadn’t even wanted to go to, but went because his parents had begged him to. They didn’t want their thirteen year old going to a party without them. It wasn’t even bad, and there were parents everywhere. James was off somewhere, hanging out with all of his friends that had somehow managed to come as well. That’s when he heard yelling, instantly recognizing his brother, he went off looking for the duo he had to escort here. Soon after he found that they had disappeared. Asking a few of the party goers, they said they saw the two run off.
A few moments later, James came up on a warehouse, something about it seeming familiar. He had come just in time… Just in time to see his brother back out the window. The teenagers eyes grew wide and he used his gift to cover the image. Not only for himself, but for his sister that was sure to be waiting on the other side of the opening, looking down. Finally making it to the room, he slammed the door open with a loud bang and grabbed his sister, trying to calm her down. He couldn’t tell what was happening after that, what he was saying. All he knew was that he picked her up and took her home.
He graduated that year, though everything after the accident seemed bittersweet. He felt guilty for what happened. He should have seen it coming. How could he not see his own brother. He couldn’t help Grant anymore, so he turned his attention to Ginnifer. Around six months after he graduated, he got a job as a bartender in a local bar. It doesn’t pay much, but he started saving money. At twenty, he is now trying to move out on his own, and is looking for a better job.

RP Sample: Etienne nodded with a smile on his face, the same smile that graced his face whenever he was talking to her. Walking a little further up the aisle, he found the liquor she was talking about. She really did know everything. It made her far too perfect in his eyes, but he supposed he would have to get over that. Spending the rest of your life with someone... well, you have to get over their flaws. He continued listening, as the woman on the other end of the line continued to speak. That was until he heard his name, his father's name. One he hadn't heard in forever. Only three people in Sanglignee knew his full name, and that didn't sound like an old voice. Still holding the phone up to his ear, Etienne slowly turned his head to look her in the face. The one he was hoping wouldn't be here. Of course this would happen to him. Why wouldn't it?
"Hey, I gotta go..." he ended the phone call with a soft voice that trailed off even more as he was bringing the phone down. The murmur of protest from the other side of the line was lost on the man and then ended abruptly as the flip phone closed with a soft click. Shit. Alright, he was fine. Sure, she was here. She... obviously recognized him. He would just have to make up some excuse as to why he was here... after such a long time. Wait, stop, breathe. You weren't freaking out about a girl you haven't seen in seven years. Besides, he didn't need an excuse. They both had secrets, hers involved him. He shared, she didn't. He wasn't going to go and be nutzo over her, not again. Though as he continued to look at her face, he realized just how hard that would be. He had moved on, he was happy, and yet he was looking at her and remembering exactly why he had feelings for her in the first place.
He started repeating his fiancee's name in his head, over and over again, sort of like a Mantra. It was what was going to remind him that he no longer belonged in this place. Sure, Sanglignee was great for some people. Obviously Ang had stayed here... Talk, he needed to talk. She was standing here before him, looking down at her feet, and he couldn't think of one word to say. Racking his brain he tried to think of anything.
"I told you never to call me that," he finally let out, a small half smile curling his lips. His voice was soft, so soft that she probably would barely hear him. He couldn't think of anything better? Seven years and all he could think to say is that she isn't supposed to call him Etienne. He was a loser. Plain and simple. Wait, why was he even worrying about that. Giselle, she loved him, and if she found out that he was worrying about what another girl thought like this, she would kill him. Then revive him before the wedding, just so she could kill him as her husband too. She wasn't a jealous woman... unless she felt that there was a reason to be. Her seeing him looking this way at someone else would have her in a fit. Alright, stop. Breathe. Speak.
"So... how have you been?" he asked, not sure if there was anything else to say after that. How do you start a conversation with someone you haven't seen in a while anyway. Was it always this awkward? Character Model: Charlie Hunnam
