The Apartment

Setting

On the third floor of a seven story building. The Apartment complex is close enough to the sea that you can see it through all of the windows, though far enough away that you have to look past a couple buildings to see it.

Starting Off table

When you first enter the apartment, the first thing you will notice is that the entire floor is wood planks with various area rugs covering places. In the entrance hallway is a window, with a small table under it. The table is piled unread mail, keys, sometimes a wallet and usually a purse of some kind. Past that, the first door you will notice will be on your left, and leading to a small laundry room. Along with a washer and dryer, it contains a sink with a cupboard. Laundry supplies are hidden away in the cupboard. Though one must say, the most notable feature is the stacks of clothes that takes up the top of the sink, as well as stacked on top of the washer and dryer. They try to keep the door closed, though sometimes forget.

If you keep moving down the hallway on the right, just before the living room, is a small cubby hole. The door to the right is a coat closet, filled with various cold and rainy weather gear. To your left would be a bathroom¹, which belongs to Maddie, though is also shared with guests. Straight ahead you will find the entrance to Maddie's room².

Living Room couches coffee table

Entering the living room, one always notices the fireplace first. With an entertainment center build around it, the mantle yields a flat screen television. On the left and the right you will find a DVD Player, a stereo, CD player, CDs, DVDs. There is also pictures. A combination of the girl's families and friends of each of them. To the right of that is the door to Adelina's room.

Still at the doorway, to your immediate left you will find a couch, next to that a rather large armchair, and under the window is a love seat. Centered on the couch is a simple coffee table, filled with magazines and various other things that the girl's have yet to put away. Sometimes it includes a few dishes or a leftover pizza box. Covering a large area of the floor is a light beige rug.

Dining Room dining set deck furniture

Perpendicular to the room, you will find a simple table, with six matching chairs. they are situated nicely or a white rug. While not the best choice for the dining room, it matches. The windows let in a lot of light for the smaller room, and make it seem bigger. Also off the dining room is the door to the deck. On the other side of it there is a small storage closet, usually filled with firewood and not paid that much attention. The deck itself contains a couple outside chairs and a small table.

Kitchen

The kitchen is usually one of the messier looking rooms. The cupboards are filled with food, appliances and dishes. The refrigerator has an endless supply of cold pizza and iced coffee. The counter are usually covered with various things. Dishes, clean and dirty, food, and a few appliances. The floor, instead of the hardwood that the rest of the apartment has, is a pale yellow tile. No doubt installed by the last renter cause they thought it looked pretty.

Adelina's Room

Walking into the door, you immediately notice the bathroom on your right. If you walk in you will see a shower curtain hanging in front of the bathtub decorated with flowers and butterflies. The majority of the colors are purple and red. Hanging on the wall opposite the toilet is a full length mirror, a little awkward when you pee but you get used to it. On top of the toilet there are various hand soap bars, those little decorative kind that you aren't supposed to actually use, they were a gift. On the mirror behind the sink, Adelina has taken various markers [that wash off] and written all sort of little notes, she erases and writes new ones all the time. the counter is full make-up, hair supplies, a blow dryer, toothpaste and all the basic stuff a girl would have. Including a couple bottles of perfume. And Just before the door again there is a closet full of extra towels, as well as extra bedding.

The very next little room you will notice it her closet, Even though the thing is a walk-in, it looks far too small for all the thing Adelina shoves into it. There are clothes and dresses hanging everywhere, as well as a dresser on the wall to the left for pants and undies, that sort of thing. Usually there is a large pile of clean, mixed with dirty, clothes somewhere in there. Usually in the middle. And the door is rarely if ever shut.

From the entrance, if you look straight into Adelina's room, you will notice a desk under the window. It is piled high with papers, binders, notebooks, a laptop and a lot of other school things. She still is in school after all. She isn't very organized. The wall to your left is filled with bookshelves, though not necessarily books. While holding some of her textbooks, she stores movies, nick-nacks, pictures [some in frames], CDs, a boom box and pretty much everything else on there. She doesn't have much room. She also has a medium sized flat screen television, close to the door and angled just enough to her bed so that it is comfortable to watch. Parents with money = <3.

Centered on the wall between her desk and the corner of the room you will find a queen sized bed. While being a place for her to sleep, it is first and foremost, a clothing holder. If it weren't enough for the closet to be messy, when she changes throughout the day, she simply tosses her old clothes on her bed and then runs to the closet to get more. When she goes to sleep, she usually tosses the leftovers onto the floor, instead of sticking them where they should go.

On the furthest wall you will notice a bay window, Adelina's second favorite feature of the room. She loves to sit in the window for hours, doing homework, listening to music, people-watching. The times she actually calms down, it is one of her favorite places. Her first favorite feature of the room, is of course the wall that shares her closet. It is lined with mirrors from top to bottom, and has a dance bar at the perfect height. Great for all those times she needs to practice her dance. Or just when she feels like dancing naked in front of a mirror.

¹ Bathroom

Madeline’s bathroom, which doubles up as the guest bathroom, is the brightest room in the house. fluorescent spotlights in the ceiling light up the pristine white suite and make the cherry red walls glow with radiance. The shocking colour is broken up by the white mosaic tiles that surround the sink and bath, spotted here and there with tiles of matching crimson. There is one mirror, spreading wide across the wall above the sink and it is surrounded with round, frosted white bulbs. The shower curtain affords little in the way of privacy with its complete transparency. Half burned candles sit on the corners of the bath while soaps, shampoos and sponges of every colour nestle neatly in a shelving unit in the corner. Everything else she keeps hidden n the cupboard under the sink, out of eyes of the people she has to share it with. What they don’t know can’t hurt them.


² Maddie’s Bedroom

In contrast to the neatness of the bathroom, Maddie’s bedroom resembles Dorothy’s after it landed in Oz. Clean clothes are strewn everywhere, while dirty ones overflow from a laundry basket in the corner. She has a double bed, butted into the opposite corner from the door, and its covered with bright yellow and royal blue patterned blankets and pillows. All four walls are bark blue to match and on the wooden flor is a summery yellow rug. Her furniture is mismatched, different woods and styles depending on what second-hand shop she got them in. she has a computer desk, but no computer. Yet. She’s working on it so that she doesn’t keep having to borrow one of her friend’s. Instead its covered in notebooks, books and pens, and at the back there’s a small CD player and a pretty pathetic collection of music. (She has been travelling for the last few years). Her wardrobe is only half full, with most of her clothes being elsewhere in her room. She has a few photos in frames on shelves that dot the walls. The postcards she’s collected on her travels now cling by tape to the largest wall. She’s still getting used to having her own, permanent room.
